I have to say something here. I can understand readers being upset if Belle had posted something like that on Sept 11, 2001. However, she did so on September 11, 2006.

I’ve never mocked your writing before, and in fact am a large fan of your work.

However, as someone who worked on the 58th floor of 2 WTC, I was shocked at the frivilous nature of the piece you chose to publish on that day.

I chose not to address the 9/11 anniversary on my blog.

Like Belle, I preferred to leave such a solemn, important piece of writing to finer minds and writers than myself. And I won’t lie, I really couldn’t bring myself to do it. Instead, I flew my flag outside my house, shed some tears watching the memorial ceremonies on TV, and said a prayer. I am deeply affected by and mourn the awful things that happened that day, and that I chose to not splash those feelings across my blog changes nothing. And neither does your sanctimonious, malicious criticism.

i thought that i would leave the 9/11 tributes in more capable hands… after all, laura, “tl” and eileen, you are the ones that take great pains to mock my writing, regardless of what I post.

the piece was (obviously) meant to be a tongue-in-cheek, light-hearted riff on fashion week and the people that inhabit it. very sorry that you couldn’t take it the post for what it was.

I cringed when I read this piece. Pretentious does not even *begin* to decribe it. And that it was posted on 9/11 is just icing on the cake.

For the love of humanity people. We New Yorkers–especially one’s who a) actually live here and b) live south of 14th Street–are constantly reminded of the tragedies of that day.

Does it make you feel better or that you’re a better human being that you took the time to chide someone for not writing a post about that day?!

You’re probably the same rubbernecking bunch who come here, stand in front of the WTC site, and smile as your picture is taken…

I’m dissappointed that someone who claims to be a “guide” to Lower Manhattan chooses not to acknowledge the life changing events that happened in Lower Manhattan five years ago. I understand that life must go on but we also need to respect the past. The lack of respect for your chosen community makes me wonder how much you actually understand the city.
