Good luck with that party, and looking at the menu, it sounds absolutely tasty.

C'mon! You should have told him to do the frying out on that terrace. Though it sounds like you and he were able to compromise, so all that ends well...

As for the first dinner party... I invited this young lady to my apartment, and I had prepared a candle light dinner for her. The menu consisted of asian spiced chiken breasts, white rice, and lightly boiled broccoli. A bottle of bubbly rounded off the meal. I kept it nice and simple.

Of course, that was also the same night my roommate decided to crash the dinner with all of his friends.

Regardless of how the night goes, I look forward to seeing the the post about how the night resolves itself.

Hmmm.... my first? The menu was set by a dear friend who was pregnant, couldn't cook, and wanted me to fix: meatloaf, artichokes with garlic butter, mashed potatoes, and probably something else. I hadn't made meatloaf in years so the timing was off. We started with salad, moved to artichokes, and finished the meal with a desert of meatloaf and potatoes! We had a blast, and all reeked of garlic. The pregger's chef's assistant kept adding more garlic when I wasn't looking.....her first case of morning sickness was the next day, and she hasn't touched an artichoke or garlic since!

Congrats Belle! Sounds like it was amazing. Hosting dinner parties is just so much fun. My hubby is the gourmet so he does most of the cooking and I...well, I try!

it absolutely does NOT have to be fancy. the more i entertain, the more i realize that the party is about setting the mood, serving good drinks and simple, delicious food. it also helps if you have a lot of beautiful, brainy girls in attendance... then the men are more than happy to make a run to the liquor store for one more bottle of champagne...
