either that or its bullshit.
September 20th, 2005 at 5:38 pm
Even the autobiographical could be considered plagiarism… or atleast some of it.

then one should conclude there is no original thought and that egoism is the key to successful writing?

Belle, you and Mark need to get together to compare notes on the New York experience.
September 20th, 2005 at 11:18 pm
Pedro offers you his protection.

Don’t listen to her, Belle, I’m not worthy.
September 21st, 2005 at 9:45 am
Belle, big success, huh?, bien. Nice. Keep the nice writing. I just love it. I swear i’m going to New York sometime in the next five years. To do three things: go see the Yankees win a world series, take a long walk on Central Park and finally and most important, share a cup o’nice coffee or a glass o’nice wine with you. A nice meal would be nice too. Keep seein’ ya. H&K desde Mexico. Viva Belle!! Que Chingon Escribes, Linda!!

Love your blog! A refreshing break from the monotony of the day-in-day-out existence most of us have. As an honorary New Yorker (crowned unanimously by four true New Yorkers many years back), I think your commentary is right on mark. Keep it up!
September 21st, 2005 at 1:31 pm
either that or its bullshit.
Look I just plagorized Mark.
But who cares, It’s my birthday. I get a freebie. So does Bill Murray.

The quote “Everything that isn’t autobiographical is plagiarism” isn’t itself autobiographical.
Therefore, by definition, “Pedro”, whoever he is, is guilty of plagarism.

I keep reading your blog when I should be working. At least today. One of those days where you just can’t get motivated to do what THEY PAY YOU to do! Funny, isn’t it?
You are living a life I dreamed of having once. Leaving my comfort zone to go to NYC and make a go of writing. I’m at the point where I feel like I’m finally growing up. Only it’s come to me in the form of meeting and falling in love with the man I’m going to marry. Making a life with him is on the front burner.
I wish you much success in your journey. And I’m sure I’ll keep reading for a little vicarious living thru your blog.

Nothing can really be entirely devoid of autobiographicity, can it? Any expression of personal ideas carries with it the cumulative effect of a person’s experience in the world.
The fact that I would read this blog in the first place says something about me, and the fact that I would choose to comment on this post also says something, as does the nature of my comment.
Or maybe I’ve had too many beers, I don’t know.

I agree!!!

Clicked through to your page from a “blogs of note” link, found it interesting and thought I’d comment. When PA said the quote you referenced, he was actually quoting Paco Umbral.
The quote seems to highlight the importance of putting yourself into your work (emotions, personal experiences, beliefs…). I’ve seen most of PA’s movies, since I wrote my thesis on the role of music in his films.
For PA, “plagiarism” would likely be characterized as a film project based solely on unfamiliar ideas and experiences; that type of project would be difficult to properly direct, since you would have to rely on the emotional input of others, rather than your own.
September 27th, 2005 at 2:48 pm
so he is doing plagiarism in his films, dont you think?
September 27th, 2005 at 2:59 pm
But what if the autobiography itself is plagarized?
A very cool – very free animation from a creative photographer…
